Reporting to the COO, the EDGE Coordinator/Career Development Officer will work across companies and organizational levels to ensure continuous learning, skill development and talent retention for business success.

At Hayner Hoyt, we don’t just build buildings…We build careers. The EDGE Coordinator/Career Development Officer will be a key contributor in helping the company select, train and retain top performers throughout the business.

Key job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in the recruitment, selection and successful onboarding of new college recruits, interns, summer hires, and/or field personnel.
  • Serve as mentor and/or assign peer mentors for new hires. Train and support peer mentors throughout the mentoring process to ensure success for the mentor and the new employee.
  • Solicit on-going feedback and monitor the progress of new employees. Identify gaps/holes in their development and create an action plan to address.
  • Participate in new employee assignments and track their exposure to different aspects of the business. Make recommendations for assignments as needed to ensure broad exposure to all project types and market sectors.
  • Serve as career counselor for new employees to help them fully understand internal career paths, job responsibilities at each level, and tools and resources available to facilitate skills development.
  • Design and implement a formal career development template to track and record learning and development plans/activities for discussion during the annual review.
  • Develop training programs for new employees which support the overall business goals and objectives, covering all aspects of our industry. Work with other internal leaders to design/ memorialize programs and schedule training. Evaluate and revise training presentations as required.
  • Assist with the development of SOPs for PM, Super, Estimator. Formalize them into a manual.
  • Provide feedback and/or participate in the performance reviews of new employees as requested.
  • Conduct research to identify best practices, vendors and resources to design and implement effective training program for different skill sets and with different training methods. If applicable, identify external resources and manage vendor relationships as required.

To perform this role you should have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Education, Human Resources or related field; with a minimum five years commercial construction experience or HS/GED with a minimum 10 years commercial construction experience
  • Prior experience designing and implementing training, and career development programs
  • Experience with different learning methods, systems and platforms for effective delivery
  • Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the business to drive the development process forward
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with and train employees of different backgrounds and levels of understanding
  • Ability to schedule, plan, execute and deliver work within defined deadlines
